Bangkok Mass Transit Authority launched these new express airport buses in 2017. We found these buses to be incredibly easy to navigate and an inexpensive way to get to both international airports in Bangkok. The bus conductors in our experience, are friendly and very helpful. Also, there’s air conditioning. What’s not to love? Both buses make several stops, and there are numerous other A-line buses with service to the airport. In this article we will focus on the airport bus stops near the Khao San area; a popular tourist hangout in the city and where we based ourselves during our stay in Bangkok. This part of town is well-known in Bangkok for being a backpacker haven, offering budget accommodations and a relaxed atmosphere. We stayed at Khaosan Art Hotel and really enjoyed our time there. Comfortable rooms and amazing customer service were huge draws that kept us coming back! They even let us store our large kitesurfing bags here for *free* during our adventures to Northern Thailand and Laos. In addition, airport bus routes include A1, A2 and A3 which run from Don Mueng Airport to other convenient locations throughout Bangkok. We are solely mentioning the S-1 and A-4 routes to and from Khao San due to our familiarity with the area and personal experience using the S-1 and A-4.

The S-1 Bus and A-4 bus are great options whether you are trying to get to the airport in Bangkok, or looking for a convenient way to enter the city. Many airport employees are very familiar with these buses and can point you in the right direction if you are confused on where to catch them. Bus attendants are helpful and will typically ensure which airport you need to go to or what stop you want to get off at in Bangkok. On the map below are two locations near Khao San road where it is possible to catch both the S-1 and A-4 bus. At each bus stop there is a sign with all routes listed on it. This is a great place to stand, however, please keep in mind that buses here frequently stop in the middle lane. Be prepared to wave down your bus, as well as enter and exit the bus quickly!

The A-4 Bus

Khao San Road - Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)

In our experience, the S-1 and A-4 buses are by far the easiest and most budget-friendly way to get to and from the Khao San area to DMK and BKK airports. They are fast, stress-free and accommodating to large luggage.

If you would prefer to take a private vehicle or are in need of transportation to the airport outside of the above times, taxis are frequent throughout the Khao San area. If you are taking a taxi from the airport it is recommended to get a taxi through the available metered stands; ensure you keep your receipt.

Grab is a popular app to have on your phone; it is similar to UBER and widely used in the Bangkok area. Most taxi fares we took were similar to the estimated fare on the Grab App.
